Responding to urgent needs across West Kentucky
The Critical Community Needs Fund helps the Community Foundation of West Kentucky respond to pressing challenges affecting our region. By supporting nonprofit organizations working on the front lines, this fund helps meet urgent needs and strengthen communities throughout West Kentucky.
Support when it matters most
Some needs cannot wait. The Critical Community Needs Fund was created to help address urgent issues affecting individuals and families across our region, with support directed to nonprofit organizations already doing the work in their communities.
Through this fund, the Community Foundation of West Kentucky can respond to current challenges, partner with donors who care deeply about local needs, and provide meaningful support where it is needed most.
Critical Needs: Feeding the Hungry
One recent focus of the Critical Community Needs Fund has been Feeding the Hungry, a grant initiative supporting nonprofit organizations working to address food insecurity across West Kentucky.
In March, grants were awarded to more than two dozen nonprofits serving 11 counties in the region. These organizations are helping meet one of the most basic human needs by providing hot meals, supplemental groceries, pantry services, and other food assistance to children, families, and older adults.
The response to this initiative made one thing clear: nonprofits across western Kentucky are on the front lines of relieving food insecurity in their communities, and the need for support remains strong.
Meeting real needs close to home
Food insecurity affects people in every community. For many families, older adults, and children, local nonprofits provide an essential source of support and stability.
The Critical Community Needs: Feeding the Hungry grants were designed to help strengthen that work. By investing in organizations already serving their neighbors, the Community Foundation can help resources go further and make a direct impact across the region.

Made possible through generous support
The Critical Community Needs: Feeding the Hungry grants were made possible through a contribution from the Biggs Endowment, established by former Paducah Mayor and Community Foundation founder Gerry Biggs Montgomery in honor of her parents. Additional gifts from the Community Foundation of West Kentucky and other donors also helped support this effort.
Grant awards ranged from $250 to $2,500 and were created in response to growing concerns about food insecurity throughout western Kentucky.
