An affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International of Americus, GA. organized in 1990 by the Henderson Ministerial Association, to date 50 Henderson County families live in safe, decent homes they can afford to call their own. Each of these households has partnered with volunteers from all across the community to help build the house which they purchased when construction was finished for the costs of the lot acquisition, building materials and title transfer. Habitat adds no profit margin and finances the twenty-five year mortgage without an interest charge.
Each of Habitat’s houses have been built by volunteers from community churches, businesses, corporations and civic groups dedicated to helping improve Henderson’s quality of housing for people working at the lower end of the wage scale. Individuals and teams are welcomed to join in the effort, contributing their time, expertise, sweat and resources to alleviate and replace substandard, unsafe, overcrowded living conditions with simple, decent shelter for households who cannot otherwise qualify for conventional mortgage financing.
